Cascades Active Now Walkers

Information and Recommendations

1. Cascades Active Now Walks will take place every Friday at 10.45am, leaving from Cascades Leisure Centre, and are FREE to anyone aged 16 or over. No pets or pushchairs please.

2. There are 30 bookable places per walk and, if you are not already a GCLL member, you will need to register for a free ‘On-line Booking Registration’ membership at gcll.co.uk, or using the GCLL Health and Fitness app, to book your place.

3. Full Members of the Leisure Centres have 10 days’ advance booking privilege, other Membership categories have 7 days advance booking privilege and On-line Booking members can book up to 6 days ahead of the activity.

4. You can cancel your booking, up to 1 hour before the walk is due to start, via the website or app and please be mindful that places are limited. If you are not able to attend, please cancel accordingly, so that someone else can take advantage of your place.

5. Please arrive at 10.45am, as the Walk Leader will leave promptly at 11am.

6. Walks will range between 2.5 and 3.5 miles in distance, and will last between 60 and 90 minutes, at an average walking pace.

7. Starting and ending at Cascades Leisure Centre, the walks will all involve some hills / inclines.

8. Recommended things to bring:-

(a) Suitable footwear. Be prepared for uneven surfaces, wet or slick surfaces, mud and / or puddles. Recommendation – sturdy trainers

(b) Appropriate clothing for weather conditions. Warm or cool clothing, hat or sun-visor, rain mac, etc. Recommendation – layers

(d) Individual requirements such as asthma inhalers, hay-fever medicine, sunscreen, insect repellent. Recommendation – medication

9. CANCELLATION POLICY – In most circumstances, the walk will go ahead, regardless of weather conditions. However, if the forecast is for significantly adverse weather, then the walk may be cancelled and GCLL reserve the right to cancel the walk at any point, up to and including the time of departure. Final decision in this respect, will be taken by the Walk Leader. Wherever possible, advance warning of walk cancellation will be given to participants, by phone call or email.

10. Cascades Café will be open on return from the walk, selling hot and cold drinks and snacks, until 1pm.
